August already — and we’re off and running!
We hosted our first official event of the year with a fireside chat featuring The Hon. Julia Gillard AC, and what an incredible way to start. More than 150 members and guests joined us for an honest, powerful conversation about leadership, resilience, and what it really takes to lead at the highest level.
For the first time, we also live-streamed the event across chapters nationwide - great to have so many EOers tuning in from around the country.
For those who missed out, Julia’s insights were refreshingly candid, and while she’s spent her career in politics, there was so much that resonated with me as an entrepreneur. From purpose-driven leadership to resilience under pressure, the parallels were clear.
A few takeaways that stuck with me:
• Purpose steadies you — and your team.
• Flexibility ≠ lost productivity — let’s retire that myth.
• Resilience takes work — even for those in public life.
• Strong leaders can be empathetic — and bias shouldn’t define us.
A heartfelt thanks to Julia, and the EO crew for making it such a memorable launch to the year.
Behind the scenes, the EO Melbourne board has also been busy. We held our first official board meeting, are finalising this year’s budget, and working on some exciting initiatives — all anchored around our theme: Unite: Better Together.
So what does that actually mean in practice? Here’s how we’re bringing it to life this year:
1. Ensure Forum Delivers Transformational Growth
Forum is the engine room of EO. This year we’re focused on helping every forum unlock its full potential — through deeper connections, cross-forum learning, and flexible formats that ensure it delivers for everyone.
2. Create Diverse Experiences & Deep Connection
We’re crafting events with range - in topic, tone and format. Whether you’re in the room or tuning in from afar, every member should feel included, inspired, and more connected to our community.
3. Elevate the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem
From Accelerator and KEP, to mentorship and the Path of Leadership — EO has an incredible suite of tools to grow our capability as leaders. We’ll make these more visible and accessible, helping more members step into bigger roles - in EO, their businesses, and beyond.
