EO Melbourne Chapter News

September 2025

Hi ,

There’s a moment in every entrepreneurial journey when you stop chasing the next big thing and start loving the game itself.

That was the biggest takeaway from our fireside chat with Larry Kestelman - founder of Dodo, majority owner of the NBL, and someone who’s been through every high, low, and pivot point you can imagine as an entrepreneur. Equal parts startup veteran and philosopher, Larry reminded us that:

  • If it’s hard, it’s probably worth doing.

  • You're either winning or learning.

  • And when it comes to leadership? Stay in solution mode — always.

It was a powerful evening, and a big thanks to Leah Akoka for drawing out the stories behind the headlines. If you missed it, keep an eye out for the highlights — this one will stick with us for a while.

Next up: AI — not later, now

Next Thursday (11 September), we’re getting hands-on with AI Transformation for 2025 and Beyond. No fluff, just real insights from two leaders who are doing it:

  • Zanyar Outhman on agentic AI, smarter workflows, and human-AI collaboration

  • Dan Petrovic asking what AI already thinks about your brand — and what to do about it

It’s the kind of session that’ll shift your thinking and your strategy. More like this to come: we’re building momentum here.

Representing Melbourne in Vietnam for Regional Leadership Summit 🇻🇳

Last month, the EO Melbourne Trifecta — that’s our Membership, Engagement and Forum Chairs, alongside me, as Chapter President — headed to Ho Chi Minh City for the APAC Regional Leadership Summit.

We connected with our counterparts from across Asia-Pacific, shared what’s working (and where we can grow further), and came away clearer than ever on what drives chapter value:

  • Strong forums

  • Meaningful connections

  • Growth-minded leadership

Plenty of ideas are now in motion — more on that in the months ahead.

Grow as a leader: EO Melbourne Board applications now open

Some of the biggest growth I’ve experienced in EO hasn’t come from events or speakers — it’s come from serving.

Joining the board has been one of the most rewarding parts of my EO journey. It’s stretched me as a leader, sharpened how I think, and given me a deeper connection to this community. Most of all, it’s been a way to give back to something that’s given me so much.

Now it’s your turn.

Applications are open for the 2026/27 EO Melbourne Board, and we’re looking for members ready to step up, grow, and lead.

Put your hand up. Or nominate someone brilliant.

Nominations close Friday, 3 October.

As always, reach out any time if you’ve got thoughts, questions, or ideas (just not during bedtime chaos, obviously).

See you soon,

John Bevitt

President FY 2025/2026

EO Melbourne is now accepting Board nominations for the 2026/27 term. Serving on the Board is a chance to grow as a leader, shape the chapter’s future, and give back to the community that has supported your entrepreneurial journey.

We welcome nominations that reflect the diversity and strength of our community. Put yourself forward or nominate another member by Friday, 3 October 2025 via this Nomination Form. For role details, visit the EO Melbourne Board page. Queries? Contact John Bevitt, EO Melbourne President (john@honeycombstrategy.com.au) or Kirsten Yokoyama, Chapter Manager (manager@eomelbourne.org).

We’re hosting a Membership Information Session, Startup to Scaling Up + AI Transformation for 2025 and Beyond, for entrepreneurs who are eligible and interested in joining EO. This will be on 11 September 2025, 8:45 am. If you know someone who fits the bill, we’d love for you to invite them. Please direct your guests to our page https://www.eomelbourne.org/vip-event to submit their expression of interest.

For queries, you can also reach out to our Membership Chairs, James Murray, at james@workhealthyaus.com.au, and Rick Bazerghi, at rick@meir.com.au.
