EO Melbourne Chapter News

March 2026

Hi ,

How much fun are you having?

It’s not a question we ask ourselves often enough.

In work - and life more broadly - things can get intense. A little stressful. Sometimes it feels like you’ve got the blinkers on, charging toward the next milestone, the next problem to solve, the next fire to put out.

And somewhere along the way, it’s easy to lose perspective on why you’re doing it in the first place.

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how to inject more fun - and a sense of wonder - into what I do. As an entrepreneur. As Chapter President. As a dad of a 2 and 5-year-old who definitely don’t take life too seriously.

Because fun isn’t frivolous.
It fuels creativity.
It broadens perspective.
And it makes the hard stuff lighter.

Mid-Year Board Summit: Strategy with a twist

Our recent Mid-Year Board Summit in Hepburn Springs had a clear purpose: revisit our strategic priorities and ensure we’ve got a sharp plan to finish the year strong.

But we also made a deliberate choice to get uncomfortable and inject some fun into the process.

So we ran a highly competitive Segway relay (yes, there is footage - and yes, Jackie absolutely sends it). We also played a modified version of Dungeons & Dragons to explore and strengthen our leadership traits.

It was creative. Collaborative. Surprisingly revealing. Turns out stepping into a fictional world is a powerful way to reflect on how you show up in the real one.

Fun isn’t the opposite of strategy. Sometimes it’s the unlock.

Social connection, minus the boardroom

We’ve also seen great momentum around our Chapter Socials this month - including rock climbing and pickleball! Less small talk. More movement.

These events have been massive hits - and they’re a brilliant reminder that connection doesn’t always need a keynote speaker or a slide deck. Sometimes it’s just about doing something fun, together.

More of this to come - including our EO Family Day at Strike on 22 March. If you haven’t registered yet, bring the crew along.

Wonderwork with Brad Montague

One of the standout moments happened this week, hosting Brad Montague - New York Times best-selling author, illustrator, and creator of Kid President.

Brad spoke about the power of wonder - and how creativity, collaboration and compassion all start with perspective.

One quote that hit me hard (the researcher in me loved this): “Show me some data and I’ll be informed. Tell me a story and I am transformed.”

As leaders, if we don’t tell the story - someone else will. And they’ll likely distort it.

Stories create shared meaning. They build connection. They shape culture.

But more than that, Brad reminded us that children - and entrepreneurs - aren’t problems to be solved. They’re wonders to behold. As a dad, that one landed deeply.

Somewhere between childhood and quarterly targets, we forget how to look at the world with curiosity instead of control.

Maybe that’s the invitation for this month: Where can you inject a little more fun? A little more perspective? A little more wonder?

It might just make you a better leader.

As always, if you’ve got thoughts, ideas, or want to connect - I’m a call, email or WhatsApp away (outside the 6–8pm dinner-bath-book-bed sprint, naturally).

Cheers,

John Bevitt
