EO Melbourne Chapter News

August 2026

Hi ,

Greetings and welcome to the August newsletter!

Costa opened the year by asking all of us to Think Big and Be Bold.

This month, I want to talk about the thing that makes any of that possible: YOU, the member.

The new member dinner with the Board in July was a genuine highlight. Around one table, we had members from lighting design, defence consultancy, behaviour therapy, property advocacy, education technology and private equity—completely different businesses. Within twenty minutes, the small talk was gone and people were discussing the decisions they were actually wrestling with. A warm welcome to every one of our new members, including Emilio De Stefano who has transferred to us from EO Adelaide, and to returning members Jonathan (Jono) Weinstock and Will Strange, who has come home after some time away.

The calendar ahead is one of the strongest we have put together. August opens with the Scaling Up Learning Day on Cash on 4 August, followed by Inside Business Exits: What No One Tells You on 6 August, which is a genuinely candid conversation about something most of us only get one shot at. On 27 August, we look at The Future of Longevity, because building a great business matters less if you are not around to enjoy it.

Tim Gurner joins us for a fireside chat on 10 September, and on 1 & 2 October, we will host a two-day AI workshop with Dave Hajdu that I would encourage every member to look at seriously. Please book early. Our best sessions are filling well ahead of time, and a waitlist is a poor substitute for being in the room.

While you are thinking about who to sit next to, think about who isn't in the room yet. Almost every great member this chapter has welcomed came from another member saying, "You should meet these people." If there is a founder in your world who would lift us, and whom we would lift, send them to our Membership Chair, Natalia Scheidegger, at natalias@3rdmill.com.au. One introduction each is all this takes.

Two pieces of chapter business.

The Board approves the chapter budget this month. As Finance Chair and Co-President, this responsibility rests with me. Your dues are a critical part of what fuels the chapter, and the commitment is simple: every dollar goes back into delivering your EO experience.

Nominations for the FY2027/28 Board open later this year. Leadership is EO's best product. If you have ever quietly wondered whether you would be any good at it, that wondering is usually a sign that you would be. When the call goes out, put your hand up, or tap the shoulder of the member you think should.

Thirty years on from our founding, this chapter is in good health because the members before us chose to lean in. This year, it is our turn.

Here's to your every success!

Think Big. Be Bold.

P.S.

This month's note is from me. As always, I'm on 0400 835 248. Give me a shout if you want to chat about the budget, the Board, or anything at all.

Warm regards,
James
