Hi ,
I got back from four blissful weeks in Greece on Monday, 17 August.
And it’s safe to say that the two weeks since have been some of the most challenging I’ve experienced in the past decade — with some difficult family health concerns, alongside some really challenging developments in my industry.
But there’s one reflection I wanted to share with you.
I’ve always thought about resilience like a battery.
Sometimes it’s full. Sometimes it’s running low. And when life gets difficult, the level of charge in that battery can make an enormous difference to how we respond.
After four weeks genuinely stepping away from work, relaxing and recharging, I came back with my resilience battery feeling close to full.
And over the past two weeks, I’ve been incredibly grateful that it was.
I’ve had the capacity to deal with difficult situations, think clearly, support the people around me, and show up as the leader I need to be.
I contrast that with other periods in my life where my resilience battery has been completely depleted — where even deciding what to have for dinner can feel overwhelming.
It’s been a powerful reminder of the importance of keeping our resilience battery “recharged”.
As entrepreneurs, we spend so much time building our businesses, solving problems and supporting everyone around us. Looking after our body, mind and spirit helps build the resilience we need when life inevitably throws something unexpected our way.
So my question for you this month is simple:
How charged is your resilience battery?
And if it’s a little lower than it needs to be, what are you going to do over the next 30 days to recharge it?
Finally, I want to say a huge thank you to our incredible EO Melbourne Board. The level of engagement, care and energy across the Board this year has been exceptional.
I appreciate every one of you and everything you’re doing to support our members.
Cheers,
Costa
